International music Festival "Sharq taronalari" is regularly held every two years, in the heart of the ancient Samarkand – on the majestic square "Registan". "Shark taronalari" which means "eastern music" is one of the greatest festivals in Central Asia. The event is held on the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan - Islam Karimov from 25th to 30th of August, starting in 1997. The purpose of such an exciting event is to bring together and promote a variety of folk and traditional areas of music of the world. Ethnic holiday is held with the support of UNESCO, aims to preserve and revitalize our national values, as well as the development of music in Uzbekistan. The project brings people together all over the world. Creative groups and ensembles from more than 50 countries take part in the bright and enchanting festival. Participants compete in national ethnic music during 5 days, which is scored by international artists from Canada, India, Japan, China, Uzbekistan and other countries. Within 5 days of the festival participants present grandiose shows in the park of Samarkand. Today the festival is widely known not only in the Central Asian territories, but throughout the world. Festival has a great importance it contributes to the preservation and development of national values On the first festival "Sharq taronalari" participants were from 31 countries of the world, in 2011 the number of countries has increased to 56. In 2017 the 14th international festival of "Sharq taronalari." is expected to be held. The majestic dome of the medieval square of Registan under the blue sky, the incredible acoustics due to the location of three facades of the area, an unusually bright and spectacular view make a great impression on guests. Guests also receive an unforgettable pleasure of visiting the great architectural structures of medieval architecture.
